In Word, you can give documents a background colour. It means that you change the default white to any other colour, or with a fill effect even. To do this, go to the Page Layout ribbon tab and choose Page Color. From there, you pick the options you want.

However, this method will make all of your pages have that colour settings. If you want to make just one single page in a colour in Word, you are out of luck. Luckily, there is an alternative available. This can be useful to for example give the first page in Word a background colour.
To change page color in Word, go to the Design tab (or Page Layout for Word 2010) and click Page Color in the Page Background group. From the palette of colors that appears, click to choose the color you wish to add to the pages. If you can’t find the color you want, click on More Colors. 1 Click the Page Color command button on the Page Layout tab's Page Background group. A menu full of colors opens, some based on the document theme and some based on standard colors. 2 Choose a color from the Page Color menu.
Click on the Page Color button; Click on a color to set your page background color. If you would like to choose a standard color from the color wheel or create a custom color, click on the More Colors button; Microsoft® Word 2016 for Mac: Launch Microsoft® Word; On the Ribbon, click on the Design tab; Locate the Page Background group. Formatting Page Background and Borders in Word 2011 for Mac By Geetesh Bajaj, James Gordon Normally, the background of a Word document in Office 2011 for Mac is white, but you can change the background color — and even apply document theme colors to it.
The alternative is to add a square shape and make it the background. Then, for that shape, you give the shape a background colour and extend it to the full page.

How to change change ms word color scheme of Microsoft word application. If you are bored with the default Blue color scheme of Microsoft word (MS office applications), there are two other different color schemes( silver andblack) hidden inside the word menu itself which you can choose to spice up your MS office applications
So how do you do that in Office 2007, the procedure is almost same in office 2010 also (more on that at the end of this post)
Step 1: Open word 2007 and than click on the big orb on the extreme left corner of the menu bar and from the menu click on the “Word Options” button as shown below.
Step 2:In the next window click on the “Popular” button from the top left pane, and under the “change the most options in word” section from the right pane under the color scheme drop down click on the arrow and you will see three different color scheme “Blue,Silver andBlack” as shown below.
Step 3:Choose the scheme of your choice say Black and click on OK button, your Office 2007 application color scheme will be set to black instantly.
NOTE:You can set your color scheme for office 2007/2010 through any application like word, excel etc and that will be automatically applicable to all other Office applications.
For Office 2010 : Under office 2010 , open Word 2010, and than click on the “File” tab than on Options, from the next window click on “General” in the left pane and under the “User interface options” on the right pane click on the arrow under “Color scheme” and follow the instruction as stated above.
That’s it !! as simple as that. Sometimes its good to change the color scheme just for a change, if you are bored with the all Blue schemes of windows.
